Abstract

1381897 Golf ball surface ACUSHNET CO 12 Oct 1972 [20 March 1972] 47054/72 Heading A6D The dimples on the surface of a golf ball are arranged so that at least 80% of the distances between the closets points on the edges of adjacent dimples are less than 0.065 inches and at least 55% of these distances are greater than 0.001 inches. Preferably 100% of the dimples satisfy both these conditions. The dimples may be round or of other shape and either evenly or irregularly distributed in icosahedron areas on the golf ball. The number of dimples, their overage depth and diameter are related by an equation which is used to determine best flight characteristics and wherein different parameter values are substituted depending on the number of dimples. Examples of are given using the formula.
