Abstract

1381532 Insect observation centre H N BRAUNHUT 5 July 1972 31530/72 Heading AIM Apparatus for the observation of insect activity comprises two insect receiving units 12 with passageways 44 leading to an observation chamber 14; this comprises an outer cylinder with a slotted inner cylinder rotatable within it, the slots being registered with either or both of the passageways 44 when it is desired to admit insects. The cover of the observation chamber has a magnifying element, and pointers 66 to indicate which passageways are open. The receiving units 12 have covers 20 with magnifying elements 24 and pipes 36 leading to the passageways 44; the pipes 36 are topped by ventilated caps 38. Further magnifying elements 22 are provided in the walls of the receiving units 12. The receiving units 12 are interchangeable and may contain nests with sculpturing and background to simulate a human habitat in minature. A sponge is suspended in each to control the humidity. The apparatus is made of transparent plastics material such as polystyrene, and may be red coloured.
