Abstract
1381477 Hydrostatic transmission control HAWKER SIDDELEY DYNAMICS Ltd 1 Dec 1971 [1 Dec 1970] 56911/70 Headings F2D and F2C A hydrostatic transmission for regulating the speed of a mechanical change-speed gear input shaft 2 during ratio shift comprises a pumpmotor unit 1 connected to the shaft 2 and delivering to a fluid circuit containing an hydraulic accumulator 9 and valve 8 in a by-pass duct 7 and a valve 5 in a return line 6 to the reservoir 4. During normal operation the valve 5 is open and the valve 8 closed so that the unit 1 idly circulates liquid without affecting the speed of the shaft 2. During a down-shift in the mechanical change speed gear the valves 5, 8 are both opened whereupon pressure liquid from the accumulator 9 drives the unit 1 as a motor to accelerate the shaft 2. During an up-shift in the mechanical change speed gear the valves 5, 8 are closed and the exhaust from the unit 1 is throttled by a variable throttle valve 15 to effect braking of the shaft 2. The valves 5, 8 are hydraulically actuated valves controlled electrically by a controller 17. On completion of a shift in the mechanical change-speed gear both valves 5, 8 are closed to recharge the accumulator 9 which, when charged, actuates a pressure responsive switch 16 to remove an inhibit signal applied to a gate 22 in the control circuit of the valve 5 which thus opens. A high pressure relief valve 13 and one-way valves 10, 11 are provided.
