Abstract

1381316 Coating corundum substrates with glass V I BYSTROVA G K KIRILLOVA and G A MIKHAILOVA 26 Oct 1972 49439/72 Heading C1M A process for producing a non-porous coating on a corundum substrate having a corundum content of 90-100% by weight comprises the steps of applying a glaze layer to the corundum substrate, subjecting the layer to heat treatment, to obtain a glass-ceramic coating on the substrate, by heating the layer to a temperature from 1350-1650‹C. at a heating rate of 100-500‹ C./hour, and thereafter cooling the substrate at a rate of about 150‹ C./hour. The corundum substrate is preferably coated with an alkalifree, lead-free barium, calcium, or strontium aluminosilicate glaze. These glazes respectively produce celsian (BaO.Al 2 O 3 .2SiO 2 ), anorthite (CaO.Al 2 O 3 .2SiO 2 ) and strontium feldspar
