1381313 Nuclear fuel elements EUROPEAN ATOMIC ENERGY COMMUNITY 23 Oct 1972 [28 Oct 1971] 48734/72 Heading G6C A nuclear fuel element for a fast reactor comprises fissile material and breeder material in oxide, carbide, or nitride form, the breeder material containing not more than 10% by weight of an aotinide metal and being disposed centrally in the element and surrounded by fissile material. The element may comprise a stainless steel can in which is arranged a central rod or stack of tablets of sintered U-UO 2 breeder material surrounded by particulate fissile material. The actinide metal acts as a " getter " for oxygen and carbon released during fission.
