Abstract

1381162 Photo-conductive powder XEROX CORP 3 Jan 1972 [6 Jan 1971] 119/72 Heading G2C Photo-conductive powder of particle size less than 5Á and comprising CdS, CdSe or CdSSe together with Cu and/or Ag and 0À01 to 1 wt. per cent CdCl 2 and/or ZnCl 2 is fired at 500 to 700‹C. Up to 50 wt. per cent of the cadmium in the chalcogenide may be replaced by Zn. The powder is fired for a time sufficient to incorporate the Cu or Ag without substantial growth of the particles. In an embodiment CdS powder of size 2À6Á is mixed with an aqueous solution CuCl 2 , dried and broken into a fine powder. The fine powder is moistened with an aqueous solution of CdCl 2 , dried at 140‹C and broken into chunks. The chunks are fired at 600‹C, quenched in water and washed free of chloride ions. The filtered material is dried at 140‹C to give a powder of mean diameter about 2À7Á. The fired powder may be mixed with polyurethane and coated on tin-oxide coated glass to give an electrophotographic plate.
