Abstract
1380847 Hydrodynamic brakes VOITH TURBO KG 3 Aug 1973 [5 Aug 1972] 37018/73 Headings F2E and F2F A hydrodynamic brake comprises a stator 10 and rotor 11 forming a working chamber to which is connected, via an inflow duct 19 and an outflow duct 17, a cooler 18 to form a cooling circuit, a first, charging reservoir 22 being connected to the cooling circuit by a charging and discharging duct 26 and being arranged to be pressurized with compressed air for charging the working chamber with liquid, and a second, collecting reservoir 23 receiving liquid leaked from the working chamber through seals 15, 16 by ducts 16a, 16b and being connected to the charging reservoir by a duct 24 having a valve 25 which blocks flow to the collecting reservoir 23 and which opens when the brake is inoperative and closes only during brake operation. Compressed air is supplied to the charging reservoir from a reservoir 51 by way of lever operated valve 54, regulating valve 50 and duct 23. The valve 50 controls the air pressure to regulate the brake torque by comparing the control air fed to valve 50 via a duct 53 with the liquid pressure fed via a duct 56 from the working chamber. A leakage duct 57 feeds entrained liquid from valve 50 to the collecting reservoir 20. A valve 29 is provided in a ventilating duct 28 connected to the working chamber and extending to the collecting reservoir, which duct allows rapid escape of air from the working chamber when it is charged with liquid and allows the air to rapidly enter the chamber on discharge of liquid therefrom. In a further embodiment, an intermediate reservoir 32 is located between reservoirs 20, 22 which is fed with compressed via a duct 49 and solenoid valve 35 to top up liquid baked to reservoir 20 under the control of level monitors 36, 37, 38, located in the reservoirs, and relays 39, 40, 41, 42.
