Abstract
1380588 Determining effects of heat treatment CSEPELI FEMMU 22 Sept 1971 [22 Sept 1970] 44249/71 Heading C7N The effect of treatment on a material is determined by so applying the treatment that a relevant parameter of the material is caused to vary in at least two directions through the sample, and relating the values of the parameter to the treatment received. Preferably the directions are mutually perpendicular. In a particular embodiment the sample is subjected to two or three consecutive monodirectionally non-uniform heat fields, while its temperature distribution is determined and subsequently related to the properties. Suitable apparatus for investigating the effect of heat in conjunction e.g. with mechanical deformation, involves passage of electric current through a tapering sample 3 held between clamps 1, 2, the latter being watercooled; heating current is controlled by thermocouple 6 while temperature distribution is sensed by element 5. In another embodiment plate 6 is surrounded by uniform heat source 7 and non- uniform source 8 the former being connected to a regulator E, with associated sensor 10, and the source 8 to regulator E 2 with sensors 12, 13. Temperature distribution of the plate is determined by sensor 14. After subjection to a monodirectional temperature gradient the sample is turned through 90 degrees and treated again.
