Abstract

1380465 Cleaning combustion apparatus NITRO NOBEL AB 25 March 1972 14105/72 Headings CSG and G10B Soot and other deposits are removed from heat exchange surfaces in combustion apparatus by charging it under combustion conditions with a mixture containing borax which forms catalytically inactive compounds with iron and vanadium oxides, and continuing the operation of the combustion apparatus at normal operating temperature for a time sufficient for the deposits to loosen. The loosened deposits are removed by brushing or blowing with compressed gas. The mixture used also comprises an alkali metal nitrate and one or more oxidizable substances, giving an oxygen overbalance of 5-35 wt. per cent. A mixture of 93% potassium nitrate 7% charcoal is mentioned, mixed with 1-10% of borax.
