Abstract
1379890 Tape transport S STEIDINGER 13 June 1972 [22 June 1971] 27470/72 Heading G5R In a transport system wherein a tape (not shown) may be moved in either of two directions by selectively pressing it against one of two capstans 5, 6 which are simultaneously driven in opposite senses by a belt 2 looped around a motor 1 and two pulleys 3, 4, compactness in size is obtained by using only one flywheel mass, viz. wheel 7 on capstan 5; any subsequent tendency for capstan 6 to rotate non-uniformly when the load on the system varies is minimized by ensuring that the free part of the belt between the pulleys (i.e. ref. B in Fig. 3) is of approximately the same length as the actual thickness of the belt.
