Abstract

1379511 Injection moulding SERCK INDUSTRIES Ltd 8 Dec 1971 [1 Oct 1970] 46640/70 Heading B5A [Also in Divisions B3 and F4] A method of forming an assembly of a plurality of tubes 10 with at least one tube plate 18, comprises the steps of inserting the ends of the tubes, in a dummy tube plate (11, 12) Fig. 1 (not shown), surrounding the tubes with a casing 13, filling at least that part of the casing which is adjacent the dummy tube plate with a low m.p. alloy, removing the dummy tube plate, fitting a mould 15, 16 over the ends of the tubes, introducing a settable material into the mould to form the tube plate 18, one face of the plate 18 being formed in contact with a face of the cast alloy, removing the mould and heating the assembly to melt and remove the alloy. The moulds 15, 16 have plug portions 17 which fit into the ends of the tubes 10. Alternatively the tubes 10 themselves may be filled with the low m.p. alloy. The tubes 10 may be supported at both ends as shown, or may be of U-shape, supported at one end only.
