Abstract

1379234 Drawing; stamping NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 13 March 1972 [18 March 1971] 7201/71 Headings B3P and B3Q In a method of drawing a workpiece 1 by at least one pair of tools 4, 5 which are both axially vibrated, the phase angle between the two vibrations is adjusted so that during the periods when the workpiece 1 is drawing relative to one tool 5, the other tool 4 has a velocity no lower than zero relative to the workpiece 1 in the drawing direction. In an embodiment described, a metal tube 1 is drawn between a die 5 vibrated by a vibrator 9 and a plug 4 vibrated by a vibrator 8. The relative phase of the two vibrations is set by a device 10 such that where #/2 #+ # is the phase lead of the plug 4 over the die 5 and V being the drawing speed, A the amplitude of the die vibrations and W their angular frequency. The maximum value of sin # is 0-537. The Specification also refers to deep drawing and drawing rod through a succession of dies
