Abstract

1378810 Pressure alarm systems H LIST 13 Oct 1972 [4 Nov 1971] 47254/72 Heading G1N The pressure and rate of change of pressure inside a closed container are monitored to energize protective devices when the combined signals indicate the approach of an explosive condition. The pressure signal, obtained by a transducer 1, Fig. 2, is compared at 8 with a limiting value set up on a potentiometer 21, and its rate of change, obtained by differentiating unit 5, is compared at 7 with a limiting value set up on a potentiometer 16. Each comparator 7, 8 produces a pulse output when the test input is excessive. When both comparators produce an output signal, an AND gate 22 energizes a monostable switching unit 23 to produce at 27 a signal for energizing control apparatus for e.g. inhibiting the explosion or actuating fire extinguishers. For use with containers in which a thermo-chemical reaction is taking place, a bi-stable switching unit 31 is operated when the comparator 8 produces a pulse output and comparator 7 produces zero output. The transducer 1 may be provided with means for coupling it to a calibrated source of pressure Figs. 3 and 4, (not shown).
