Abstract

1378473 Fuel dispensing apparatus TOKICO Ltd 14 Feb 1973 [17 Feb 1972] 7205/73 Heading A4T [Also in Divisions B8 and G4] A fuel supplying apparatus comprises an erected structure 14 having an overhead structure 12 extending over a fueling service area, a stationary pipe 15 extending from a reservoir 12 and through the structure, a flexible pipe 25 extending from the stationary pipe and having dispensing nozzle 29 at one end, the flexible pipe being suspended from the overhead structure, a first indicator 26 in the vicinity of the nozzle and a second indicator 33 secured to part of the erected structure responsive to electrical signals indicative of fuel quantity, and means provided at the first indicator to mechanically reset the first indicator to zero and, at the same time, to emit a zero-resetting signal for the second indicator. The stationary pipe 15 extends from a flowmeter 22, to which fuel is supplied from the reservoir 16 by a pump 19 driven by a motor 20, to a pipe fitting 39 in a delivery unit 10 carried by the overhead structure 12. The fitting connects with a shaft 41 of a hose pipe 25 on a reel 42. Rotation of the reel to effect lowering and raising of the end of the pipe 25 carrying the nozzle 26 is effected by a pneumatic cylinder 40, the piston of which has a rack 44 engaging a pinion 45 connected by gears 46 to the shaft 41, the piston acting against a spring 43. The cylinder is connected by an air line 17 and electromagnetic valve 18 controlled by a power source 23 and switch 24, operation of which causes lowering and raising of the pipe 25. Lowering of the hose causes closure of a switch 70 in the circuit of the pump so that the pump is started when the zero-resetting signal is emitted, the pump being maintained in its driven state when the delivery switch is closed even if there is no emission of a zero-resetting signal. The flowmeter 22 emits pulses which pass through a supply unit, which limits the current to a small value so that, if a spark is generated, it is less than the mimimum ignition energy of the atmosphere of the fuel vapour, and wires 30, 32. The wire 30 passes through the delivery unit 10 and hose pipe 25 to the indicator 26, and the wire 32 is connected to the indicator 33. The delivery unit 10 also contains a wire take-up device. The wire 30, Fig. 5A, extending through seal 106 at one end of the hose 25 and being joined by connectors 100, 101 to a conductor wire 102 wound in opposite directions on reels 103, 104 and connected to a spiral cable 105, the reel 104 being urged in one direction by a spring to effect rewinding of the wire. The indicator 26 is mounted in a casing 50, Figs. 2 and 3, adjacent the nozzle 29 and has a window 52 for displaying numerals of an electromagnetic counter 51 which is reset when a push button 53 is depressed to rock a lever 58 about a pivot 59 and actuate a reset button 61. The lever also actuates a switch 62 for generating a zeroresetting signal for the second indicator 33. In another embodiment, the resetting of the indicator is effected by depressing the push button 53 to cause rocking of a lever 84, Fig. 8A about a pivot 85. Movement of the lever 84 disengages a part 84a from a projection 81b of a lever 81 which thus moves about a pivot 82, the end of the lever 81 having a projection 81d which moves a bar 87 away from levers 90 which act on heart-shaped cams 94 to reset the indicator. The opposite end of lever 81 has a projection 81 c for actuating the switch 62 for generating the signal to reset the second indicator 33.
