Abstract

1378110 Cutting tubes ARMSTRONG CORK CO 5 April 1973 [22 Aug 1972] 16430/73 Heading B4B [Also in Division F2] A tube, e.g. of foamed plastics, is cut into two hinged halves by forming a radial cut 17 internally down to an outer covering 12 in advance of a through cut 18. Apparatus forming the cuts comprises a conveyer forcing a tube against an internal cutter 45 which is upstream of an external cutter 44 forming the cut 18. Before cutting, a portion 15 of the outer cover is folded back. The apparatus has an endless conveyer 25 with dogs 28 for passing the tube between laterally and vertically adjustable guide rails 31. One or more hold down elements (58), Fig. 5 (not shown), may engage the tube from above. The cutters 44, 45 are supported from a bar 42, the former directly and the latter by a plate 48 carrying a stem or rail 49 to which the cutter 45 is attached. The stem passes down the centre of the tube and is adjustable in height via the connection of the plate 48 to the bar 42.
