Abstract

1377344 Fastener driving tools J M WILSON (Spotnails Inc) 10 July 1973 32748/73 Heading B4C Sound-deadening in a fastener driving tool is effected by mounting a section 33 of sound deadening material on the piston 18 and another section 34 on the valve 25 for engagement with one another when the piston is retracted and the valve closed as shown in Fig. 1. Instead of a coating 33, the material on the piston may be a pad 23, Fig. 4, adhesively secured in a recess 22 the material being moulded of polyurethane with or without additives of asbestos and fluorine-containing polymers. Sound-deadening material may also be applied at 35 on the piston for engagement with a bumber 24 and at 36 on the cover 13 for engagement by the valve when the valve is lifted to allow air to pass into the cylinder above the piston and seal off the exhaust port 28 by the engagement of a tubular part 25a with a seal 32. Automatic recycling occurs when the trigger is continuously depressed and the tool is positioned against a workpiece.
