1377278 Azines PECHINEY UGINE KUHLMANN 10 July 1972 [15 July 1971] 32137/72 Heading C2C Azines of the formula wherein R 1 and R 2 are H atoms, C 1 to C 12 straight chain alkyl radicals, C 3 to C 12 branched chain alkyl radicals or cycloalkyl radicals, a C 6 to C 12 hydrocarbon radical containing a benzene ring, or together are a C 3 to C 11 straight or branched alkylene radical, these radicals being optionally substituted by groups which are stable in the reaction; are obtained by reacting NH 3 and H 2 O 2 in the liquid phase with at least one carbonyl compound R 1 COR 2 in the presence of a catalyst selected from the hydroxides or soluble salts of ammonia or of metals of Groups Ia and IIa of the Periodic Table according to Mendeleev. The reaction may be carried out in aqueous solution or in a solvent. Specified solvents are alkanols. Examples are given which illustrate the process.
