Abstract

1377163 Welding by pressure T MATSUMOTO 5 Feb 1972 5454/72 Heading B3R In a method of welding together three plates 10, 30, 40, e.g. to form a T-section member, one plate 10 is heated by a high frequency induction heating device while the remaining plates 30, 40 are heated at the edges to be welded by high frequency current applied by contactors 80. Rolls 20 maintain the plate 10 in vertical disposition while pressure rolls 60 bring the three plates together at a welding point 50. The induction heating device comprises two U-shaped plates 720 joined on one limb of the U by a bridge piece 710, the two ends of a watercooled tube 730 which follows the shape of the plates serving as the supply electrodes for the high frequency current. Plate 10 passes between the U-shaped plates 720 of the induction heating device without making contact therewith. The invention may be applied to welding two plates to the web of a T-section member to form an H-section.
