Abstract

1376860 Vehicle bumpers G E HORNSBY 19 April 1973 18981/73 Heading B7J A vehicle bumper comprises a rear bar 14 carried by the vehicle, a channel section front bar 17 supported on bar 14 by bolts 18 pivoted at 19 to bar 17 and engaged by nuts 21 on the rear side of bar 14, and elongate air bags 22, 24 located between the bars and having inflation valves 23, 25 extending through holes 16 in bar 14. In the embodiment of Fig. 5 a pair of secondary bars 41, 43 are located between the two main bars 33, 35 and mounted on pins 36 pivoted to bar 35 and having heads 39 to the rear of bar 33. Bearings 40, 42, 44 rigid with bars 33, 41, 43 engage the pins. Compression springs 45, 46 are located between bar 33 and bearings 42 and between bar 41 and bearings 44 respectively. Four air bags 47 with inflation valves 48 are located between bars 35 and 43.
