Abstract
137,657. Evans, J. D. Feb. 25, 1919. Picks.-A miners' picking and ripping bar is constructed with a steel tube fitted with a. removable bit, preferably at each end. The bit 1, Fig. 1, may have a parallel shank held in the socket by a cross-pin, or a taper shank engaging a split socket 6, Fig. 3. A shoulder 4 of larger diameter than the tube 3 may be formed on the bit to facilitate its removal by striking with a drift; or the bit may be ejected by a striker 9, Fig. 3, having a lug 8 projecting through a longitudinal slot 7 in the tube 3. The striker is retained in position by a fixed block 10 in the tube, and is operated by a blow on the lug 8.
