1376229 Quenching coke SIMON-CARVES Ltd 1 Aug 1972 [20 Aug 1971] 35915/72 Heading F4B Coke from an oven chamber 10 is guided over an oven platform 12 into a coke receptacle 19 through opening 17. The base 23 of the receptacle 19 slopes downwardly away from the oven towards an opening 50 normally closed by a flap 55. The receptacle 19 is mounted on rails 30 on a low-loader car which runs on rails 32 along the length of the coke battery to quenching stations. The rails 30 are mounted on the car in a direction transverse to the direction of movement of the car and are alignable with a number of fixed rail sections. The receptacle 19 is moved on the rails 30 and fixed rail sections into smoke-tight connection with a quench chamber 40, Fig. 5, and the coke is released into the chamber along a ramp 65 through opening 50 in the receptacle 19 and the opening in the chamber normally closed by flap 51,on to the bottom 45 of a vibrating trough 43 which moves the coke along to vibrating trough 44. The coke on the troughs is quenched by water sprayed from nozzles 48. The quenched coke then passes over the coke breeze charge of a bucket 59, and ramp 61 on to a conveyer belt 62.
