Abstract

1368104 Discharging coke SIMON-CARVES Ltd 1 Sept 1971 [3 Oct 1970] 40722/71 Headings F4B and F4X Coke 10 is discharged from a coke oven through a guide grating 20 mounted on a car 19 to a quenching car 35 mounted on wheels 37. The car 19 travels on wheels 18 mounted on a platform carried by supports 16, and the guide grating 20 on the car 19 can be moved in the direction of the oven to rest against the door frame 30. A hood 32 is disposed on car 19 by means of a frame 31, and extends over the coke quench car 35. A pipe 45 extending from the interior of the hood 32 leads to a space 21 which forms a smoke exhaust main running alongside the oven battery. In the embodiment shown the exhaust main is formed by a trough 39 of liquid and a cover 42 attached to the outer wall of the trough. The liquid forms a seal between the pipe 45 and main 21 to prevent smoke escaping to the outside. In another embodiment the ends of the pipe from the hood extend into liquidfilled troughs (22) to provide a seal between the pipe (54) and an upper chamber of the exhaust main (52).
