1376095 Distributing forage P DENIS 26 Feb 1973 [29 Feb 1972] 9219/73 Heading AIM [Also in Division A4] In a rotary brush for use in cattle forage distribution machines, the bristles are maintained at the same angle to the swept surface throughout brush rotation by providing circular flanges 6 at each end of a rotatably driven shaft 4 and pivotally connecting a series of brush elements 7 between the flanges for rotation about axes parallel to the longitudinal axis of the shaft and spaced about a circle centred on the longitudinal axis. In order to simultaneously adjust the angle of inclination of the bristles of all the elements 7 relative to the swept surface, each brush element has the pivot at one end thereof extending through the circular flange and connected to an arm 9 rigid with a pin 10 freely rotatable in a rotatable annular member 12, the pins 10 being positioned on a circle of the same radius as that of the circle formed by the axes of the elements but eccentric to the axes of the elements such that rotation of the annular member about an eccentric hub causes adjustment of the pins 10 with rotation of the brush elements to alter the inclination of the bristles relative to the swept surface. The brush shaft may be rotatably mounted between the two arms of a fork pivotally mounted about a vertical axis z-z above an endless belt conveyor 1 supplying forage or other material to the brush such that the brush distributes the forage on one or the other side of the conveyor depending upon its angular position relative to the conveyor. The brush shaft may be driven through a pulley and belt drive from the motion of the conveyor.
