Abstract

1376047 Cardiac stimulators ASSOCIATION DE RECHERCHE & D'ENTRAIDE CARDIOLOGIQUES ET ANGEIOLOGIQUES 10 July 1972 [9 July 1971] 32251/72 Heading A5R A cardiac stimulator produces a first train of stimulating pulses having a pulse-repetition rate equal to one half the desired heart-beat rate and a second train of stimulating pulses having a repetition rate equal to the first train with its pulses occurring midway between those of the first train. One embodiment comprises a multivibrator 3 producing the first pulsetrain and being connected to a delay line 9 to trigger a multivibrator 4 to produce the second pulse train, both pulse-trains being applied to one electrode 2. In a modification, the first pulse train is applied to a first electrode and the second pulse train is applied to a second electrode, the delay line 9 being supplied from both power supplies 11, 12 via diodes. A further embodiment has a pulse generator giving pulses at a rate equal to the desired heart rate and coupled via a switch to two electrodes so that odd-numbered pulses, forming the first train, pass to one electrode, and even numbered pulses, forming the second train, pass to the other electrode. The pulses of the first train may have a different amplitude, duration, or waveform to the pulses of the second train.
