1375987 Emergency escape shoot apparatus CAR MAT CO Ltd 3 Dec 1971 56278/71 Addition to 1361178 Heading B7J The emergency escape apparatus of the parent Specification 1,361,178 is modified by the provision of inner and outer frame assemblies 1 and 2 each having an opening 4 and the assemblies being adapted to be secured together in an aperture in the wall 11 of a structure so as to bear respectively on the inner and outer surfaces of the wall, the assembly 1 carrying ratchet strainers 10 at its upper corners for anchoring guide and support cables 33 of an escape shoot 67 and inner and outer doors 14, 15 being mounted on the respective assemblies 1, 2 to slide between closed positions for stowing the shoot 67 in folded condition and open positions, the doors being interconnected by cables 9 so that opening the inner door automatically opens the outer door. The frame assemblies are secured together by bolts passing through lugs 7. The doors are slidable on cables 40, 41 and are counterbalanced and the inner door may be locked to the inner frame assembly. The outer door engages a shield 61 carrying a sealing strip when the door is closed, and should the door jam chamfered edges 51 allow the door to be pushed clear from the outer frame assembly. The shoot 67, which is preferably of fireresistant material and may have a reflecting asbestos layer, is secured to the inner frame assembly through snap hooks and battens. The ratchet strainers 10 comprise shafts to which the cables 33 are attached and which can be rotated by a key through a pawl and ratchet device to tighten the cables.
