Abstract

1375979 Transportation of polymers in solution CASSELLA FARBWERKE MAINKUR AG 1 Dec 1971 [2 Dec 1970] 55745/71 Heading C3P An aqueous solution of a polymer, formed by polymerization of a catalyst-containing solution of the monomer contained in a shipment package, is despatched to a consumer while still in the package and without removal of water. In examples viscous solutions or gels are made by polymerizing acrylamide or mixtures thereof with hydroxyethyl methacrylate or N-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate hydrochloride in polyethylene bags or polyethylene-lined tins or casks. The solvent is water or aqueous t-butanol and the catalyst is a peroxide or a redox system, and may be modified by a metal compound such as copper acetylacetonate. In the examples the solution may also contain sodium carbonate or hydroxide, n-butylamine hydrochloride, and methyl or p-methoxyphenyl p-tolylsulphonylmethyl carbamate.
