Abstract

1374731 Automatic tape-cartridge players PIONEER ELECTRONIC CORP 9 Feb 1973 [9 Feb 1972] 6567/73 Heading G5R A playback assembly moves over an array of tape cartridges, stops and plays back the cartridge at any position at which a manually operable selector has been actuated, and moves on after sensing the end of the tape being played back. As shown, a plate 16 is driven up and down a stack of cartridges 1, each resting on an individual tray 1<SP>1</SP> associated with a latchable push-button 11<SP>1</SP>, by a feed screw 18 rotated by a reversible electric motor 17 controlled by limit switches SW1, SW2. On encountering an operated and latched push-button 11<SP>1</SP>, a spring-loaded pin 22 is pushed in to close a switch SW4, causing a solenoid 26 to open a switch SW3, stopping the motor 17, and advance a sliding plate 23. This releases a pinch-roller 4 in the selected cartridge to engage a rotating capstan shaft 8, unlatches the push-button 11<SP>1</SP>, and inserts into the cartridge a magnetic head 20 and a sensor 21 which later initiates release of the solenoid 26, and consequent resumption of travel by the plate 16 carrying the playback assembly, on engaging a conductive end-of-tape foil.
