Abstract

1374549 Gas holders of variable capacity GENERAL AMERICAN TRANSPORTATIONCORP 9 Feb 1973 [16 Feb 1972] 6547/73 Heading F4X A cylindrical fluid storage tank 100 incorporates a flexible impervious seal 145 connected at one end 147 to the tank side wall 101 and at the other end 146 to the periphery of a piston 135 vertically movable within the tank. A counterweight mechanism 160 including a counterweight 165 connected to the piston 135 through three cables 180 is provided for counterbalancing the weight of the piston. The counterweight 165 slides within a guide 170 the front wall 171 of which has an elongated slot 175 receiving a level indicator 176 fixedly connected to the counterweight 165. Fluid to be stored, e.g. petrochemical vapour, enters the tank through an inlet-outlet pipe 130 which is provided with an upstanding stack 131 having a vent structure 132. Any vapour condensing within the tank due to changes of temperature or pressure can be removed therefrom via an outlet 120.
