Abstract

1374377 Radio signalling MOTOROLA Inc 19 Jan 1973 [7 Feb 1972] 2905/73 Heading H4L In a paging system whose signals contain an address portion followed by an audio information portion, the address portion of each signal is arranged to overlap the information portion of the preceding signal in order to avoid time wastage. The address portions contain two tones preselected by switches 24, 25 from oscillators 23 in the range 65Hz to 250Hz, to which the audio outputs of the paged receivers 17 are made unresponsive. Initial closure of a pressto-talk switch 11 applies a positive potential A at 30 to the first of two monostables 49, 65. These operate in turn to open successively gates 26, 27 which supply one tone and then the other to the transmitter. The same initial closure of switch 11 also applies earth potential to a diode 31 in a control circuit 13 to energize relay 32 and turn on a tape recorder 14. Voice signals at 12 are recorded, and then reproduced after a delay equal to the duration of the twotone address signal, and applied to the transmitter. When the voice input ends, switch 11 is released, and a delay circuit 18 holds the tape recorder operative for at least long enough to complete transmission of the recorded message. If a new address has been set up by 24, 25 during the recording time, switch 11 may be immediately re-operated to permit the new voice signal to be recorded; and the new address tones will be gated by 26, 27 to the transmitter, concurrently with the end of the delayed, previous voice signal.
