1374236 Metal-vapour discharge lamps HANOVIA LAMPS Ltd 3 Nov 1971 [26 Aug 1970] 41136/70 Heading H1D A mercury vapour-metal halide tubular discharge lamp is provided with one or more dimples or peripheral bulges in its envelope, or with a wire coiled therearound, to provide a cool spot in operation of the lamp, to which the halide migrates upon switching off, whereby, when starting the lamp, subsequent unwanted switching off due to a voltage peak induced by the halide vapour is avoided. A single such cool spot may be arranged at the mid-point of the lamp envelope, or a plurality may be arranged equally spaced along the envelope.
