Abstract

1374174 Reactors COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE 22 Sept 1972 [23 Sept 1971] 44008/72 Heading G6C A reactor diagrid comprises three horizontal plates 1, 2 and 3, the plates 1 and 2 being spaced a substantial distance from each other whilst the plate 3 is close to the plate 2. Tubes 4 extend between the plates, being welded within orifices in the plates 1, 2. The plate 3 is also provided with orifices of a diameter between that of the external lateral face of the top portion of each tube 4 and that of the bore 4a of the latter. A sleeve 5 having a terminal annular flange 5a is secured within the bore 4a by means of a screwthreaded portion. Longitudinal slits in the lower portion of the sleeve 5 form arms 5b, the tips 5a of which engage beneath a shouldered annular face formed by an annular groove 4c within the wall of the tube 4. The upper extremity of the sleeve 5 has a frusto-conical face 5d which provides a seat for a fuel assembly. The plates 1, 2 and 3 are in the form of discs, the plates 1 and 2 being welded to uprights 11 through which pass columns 8. The columns 8 have threaded ends 8s, 8i which serve to connect them to the plate 3 and to the base of a lateral support structure 9. The tubes 4 which serve as support stools for fuel assemblies also supply them with liquid metal coolant through apertures 4l. In order to replace any sleeve 5 which may have become damaged, the corresponding fuel assembly is removed and by making use of a suitable tool (not shown), the arms 5b are drawn together to release the sleeve 5 and enable it to be unscrewed. In the event that any damage sustained by the plate 3 necessitates its replacement, all the sleeves 5 are removed and the nuts 10 securing the plate 3 to the lateral structure 9 by means of the column 8 are unscrewed to permit removal of the plate.
