1373944 Vehicle wheels DUNLOP HOLD. INGS Ltd 29 Nov 1971 [9 Dec 1970] 55261/71 Heading B7C A vehicle wheel comprises a rim 1 having a well 2 and a pair of tyre bead seating portions 5, 6 one on each side of the well, and a disc 10 welded to the radially inner side of the rim substantially in the central region of one of the bead seating portions, the peripheral portion 13 of the disc 10 extending substantially perpendicularly to the region of the rim 1 to which the disc is welded. The bead seating portions 5, 6 may, as shown, be inclined, e.g. at an angle of 15 degrees, to the axis of rotation of the wheel. The portion 13 may comprise at least 4% of the diameter of the disc 10. A hole 9 may be provided in the rim 1 for mounting a tyre inflation valve and a further hole 14 may be provided opposite the hole 9 in the disc 10 for the passage of the stem of this valve. Weld beads 11, 12 joining the rim and disc may be circumferentially continuous or may be evenly circumferentially spaced arcuate fillet welds. The disc 10 may be of uniform thickness or may be taper rolled to. be thinner at its periphery, and the disc may be provided with a central hole 15 and wheel mounting bolt or set-screw holes 16.
