Abstract

1373584 Tiltable chairs HALLAM POLYMERS & ENG Ltd 9 Feb 1972 6001/72 Heading A4U A tilting chair comprises a pad 2 of resilient material e.g. polyurethane, secured between plates 8, 9 by a bolt 10 and nut 12, the plates being attached to or incorporated in the seat and base of the chair respectively, the pad having a central aperture 3, for passage of the bolt, and integral extensions on one face thereof forming an annular bearing 7, projections 4 and buffers 5, 6. The projections 4 are of greater vertical height than the bearing 7 and are rigidified by compression when the nut 12 bears on the upper plate 8 so that sideways tilting of the seat is prevented, and buffers 5, 6 form resilient stops limiting fore and aft tilting on the projections 4 as centres. The projection 5 at the rear of the seat is of less vertical height than the projection 6 which is at the front of the seat so that the seat is tiltable further in the rearward direction than forwardly. The bolt is welded to the lower plate 9 and the nut 12 bears on the plate 8 through a resilient washer 11. In modifications, the projections are formed by pins bonded into the pad or are of equal or less height than the bearing portion and are compressed by localized depressions in the plate 8, or the resilient pad is square, the bearing portion being formed as a raised rectangular portion round the central aperture.
