1373572 Moulding fibre reinforced containers KRAFTFAHRZEUGWERK "ERNST GRUBE" VEB 24 March 1972 13929/72 Heading B5A A method of manufacturing a container having at least one separating wall comprises the steps of (a) winding a layer 1 of glass fibre reinforced polyester on a mandrel 2 to form a cylindrical wall (b) positioning an annular member 8, which is curved to conform with the mandrel, on the layer 1, (c) with the aid of a mould member 3, forming a supporting layer of polyurethane foam 6 over part of the layer 1, the annular member 8 defining an aperture in the layer 6, (d) axially aligning two such cylindrical walls on either side of a prefabricated separating wall (Fig. 5) and winding layer 24 of fibre reinforced polyester around the adjacent parts 5, 19 and 4, 20 of the cylindrical walls and separating walls to join them, (e) applying annular metal reinforcements A over the joints and winding a further layer 24<SP>1</SP> over the reinforcement, (f) applying a foam layer 26 over the joined parts with the aid of a mould member 25 (Fig. 6), and (g) joining prefabricated end walls to the open ends of the cylindrical walls. The container is completed by winding a final layer of a hardenable laminate over the entire structure. Fig. 4 shows a method of producing separating walls in which two wall portions 12, 13 of glass fibre reinforced are held in a jig and a core 21 of polyurethane foam produced between them. End walls may be produced by using only one portion 12 or 13. By removal of the areas of the cylindrical wall and outer laminate covering which bound the aperture 7, an opening may be formed in the container for the insertion of a closure device or pipe.
