Abstract

1373342 Filtering: comminuting sewage &c LONGWOOD ENG. CO Ltd and CHITTENDEN & HOWARD Ltd 29 Oct 1971 [10 Nov 1970] 53308/70 Headings B1D and B2A A combined screening and macerating apparatus for treating solids-bearing liquids flowing in direction X in a channel comprises a plurality of screen bars 5 arranged across the channel to catch the solids and cooperating tines or rakes which lift the solids deposited on the screen and deliver them to a tank 9 arranged transversely to the channel. Diluent liquid sucked in from downstream of the filter by line 14 and pump 13 is added via line 15 to the solids within the tank 9 to form a slurry therein. The slurry then syphons out of the tank via the rotary macerator 17 and is discharged in the channel downstream of the filter by pipe 22. The tank is fitted with a drain valve 21 and a deflector plate 16 to prevent solids being thrown out of the tank by the rotating cutter unit 20 of the macerator 17.
