1373206 Modulating light DEUTSCHE SPIEGELGLAS AG 19 April 1973 [6 May 1972] 19113/73 Heading H4F [Also in Division G5] An optical indicator element has a liquid crystal layer 10 between electrically conducting, light-transmitting layers 16, 20 in one or both of which numbers, letters, or the like are formed on a glass plate 12, 14 on the side of each layer remote from the crystal layer 10, there being a semi-reflecting layer 18 between a glass plate and an adjacent conducting layer. Alternatively, layers 18 may be applied on the external faces of each plate 12, 14. Layers 18 may be interference layers of titanium dioxide and/or silicon dioxide.
