1372745 Anti-theft devices G T SCHLAEFLI 4 April 1973 [1 March 1972] 9655/72 Heading F2H [Also in Division E2] An anti-theft fastener, e.g. a wheel nut for a motor vehicle, includes an axially projecting post 5 (Fig. 1), 35 (Fig. 4), or 75 (Fig. 7) integral with or permanently secured to the fastener 2, 32, or 72, and a locking member 1a, 31, or 71 which when in position covers the driving toolengaging portion 3, 34, or 74 of the fastener and is rotatable relative to the fastener, the locking member comprising two relatively rotatable parts 13, 14 or 43, 44, or 89, 90 and being securable to the post 5, 35, or 75 by interengaging lugs and collars so that it can be removed from the fastener only when the post and the two parts of the locking member are in one rotational position relative to one another. In Figs. 1, 3 the post 5 is integral with a nut 2 and has an annular collar 6 with four cutouts 7-10, the cutouts 7, 8 being deeper and narrower than the cutouts 9, 10. Locking part 13 has a bore equal in diameter to the outside diameter of the collar 6, with two internal lugs 17, 18 of a size and spacing to pass through the cutouts 8, 9 respectively. Locking part 14 has internal lugs 21 which pass through slots 22 in the part 13 and are of a size and spacing to slide through the cutouts 7, 10 of the collar 6. Indicia are stamped on the part 5 and the locking parts 13, 14 to enable their correct relative rotational positions for release to be set. In Figs. 4, 6 the part 35 is rotatably mounted on a nut 32 and has two collars 36, 37 each with two cutouts 38, 39 and 40, 41, the cutouts 38, 40 being axially aligned and deeper and narrower than the cutouts 39, 41, which are also axially aligned. Internal lugs 46, 47 in the looking part 43 are of a size and spacing to slide through cutouts 41, 39 and 40, 38 respectively. The locking part 44 is rotatably secured within the part 43 and has internal lugs 52, 53 which can slide through the cutouts 39, 38 respectively. In Figs. 7, 9 the post 75 is rotatably mounted on a nut 72 and has two collars 76, 77 each with three cutouts 78-80 and 81-83, the cutouts being in axially aligned pairs. The cutouts 79, 82 are shallower than the others. Locking part 89 has three internal lugs 92-94 slidable through cutouts 81, 78 and 82, 79, and 83, 80 respectively. Locking part 90 has three internal lugs 99-101 slidable through the cutouts 78, 79, 80 respectively. The lugs and cutouts are each defined by two circular arcs in plan.
