Abstract
1372415 Classifying photographic originals EASTMAN KODAK CO 26 Aug 1971 [27 Aug 1970] 40112/71 Heading G2A Originals to be photographically reproduced are classified by measuring the extreme density portion of the central portion 14 of the original and the average density of an upper 12a and a lower 12b peripheral portion of the original. In one embodiment, Fig.1, the original is imaged on to an array of photo-cells which includes a plurality of cells 15 occupying the subject portion which are connected to an auctioneering circuit as described in Specification 1229677. In a second embodiment, Fig.2, a disc 210 is rotated over a projected film gate 216 to obtain the density measurements. Light sources with co-operating photo-cells are positioned at 90‹, 132‹ 53', 171‹ 30', and 200‹ 30' to form control gates. The disc has ten notches 217a-217k and associated apertures 213a-213k each located at different distances from the centre of the disc. As the disc rotates, notches 217a-217k are aligned in turn with the light source at 90‹, and apertures 213a- 213k effect scanning over the subject portion of the original. In addition, an aperture 215 is aligned in turn with the other light sources when U-shaped apertures 211, 212 are positioned over film gate 216 to measure the density of peripheral regions, and when an aperture 214 is aligned with a projected reference 218.
