1371929 Pressure-responsive transfer system BIBBY & BARON (HOLDINGS) Ltd 14 Dec 1972 [10 Dec 1971] 57370/71 Heading D2B [Also in Divisions B6 and C5] In a pressure-responsive transfer system comprising first and second sheets having their opposed surfaces coated with a receptor and a donor coating respectively and in which application of mark-forming pressure on the first sheet causes corresponding marking to be produced on the second sheet as a result of localised transfer of the donor coating to the receptor coating revealing a record colour on the second sheet, the donor coating comprises a protective layer and a subjacent masking layer having a strong affinity for the protective layer, the masking layer being superimposed on and readily detachable from the record colour layer which has a strong affinity for the second sheet. As shown, the system may comprise a top sheet A provided with a receptor coating b, an intermediate sheet A' provided with protective layer z, masking layer y, and record colour layer x on one surface and receptor coating b on its opposite surface, and a bottom sheet A" having its top surface coated in the same manner as A'. The receptor coating may be formed from modified polyethylene/ wax compositions optionally pigmented. The colour layer x may be formed from an aqueous solution or dispersion of an appropriate polymer containing a pigment. The masking layer y may be formed from a pigmented solution of a polymer or polymers dissolved in a volatile organic solvent. The protective layer z may be formed from an aqueous pigmented polymer dispersion.
