Abstract

1371731 Yeast; sugar HENKEL & CIE GmbH 21 Dec 1972 [28 Dec 1971] 59043/72 Headings C6B and C6F Foam formation of liquids containing sugar or yeast, arising in the processing of sugarcontaining plant juices or production of baker's yeast with use of molasses, is inhibited by inclusion in the liquid of addition products of, - ethylene oxide/propylene oxide to straight or branched; saturated or unsaturated, aliphatic alcohols containing between 6 and 36 carbon atoms, such addition products exhibiting a turbidity point in 1% aqueous solution below 25‹C. The addition product preferably contains 3-10 mol. of ethylene oxide and 3-20 mol of propylene oxide per mol. of alcohol. The molar ratio EO : PO may lie between 1 : 1 and 1 : 4. The addition product may be employed in conjunction with known defoaming agents (specified) as set forth in detail in the Examples.
