Abstract

1371544 Regulating I C engine fuel supply; stopping ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 4 July 1972 [5 July 1971] 31146/72 Heading F1B and F1K [Also in Division F2] A variable-length link 4, 6, 7, included in the linkage between the accelerator pedal 15 and fuel injection control lever 3 of the engine of a heavy motor-vehicle, more particularly for momentarily increasing and reducing the engine fuel supply during downshift and upshift respectively of a partly automatic transmission, e.g. by electronic control, comprises a cylinder 6 attached to the rod 4, and housing a piston 18 attached to the rod 7, the piston being movable to any of three positions in the cylinder by selective supply of hydraulic pressure to opposite ends of the cylinder under control of two two-position solenoid valves 30, 43, as follows. For the engine "start" position, both valves 30, 43 are energized, position I, so that the right end 21 of the cylinder is exhausted through the valve 43, whilst the left end 20 is pressurized through the valve 30 from a pump 34, thus forcing the piston 18 to the right end of the cylinder and shortening the link 4, 6, 7. For normal regulation by the accelerator pedal, the valve 43 is energized alone, whereby both cylinder ends are exhausted and springs 27, 40 centralize the piston 18 (position shown) and maintain a constant link length. During downshift both valves 30, 43 are energized and the link is shortened to provide full load as for "start". During upshift the valve 30 is energized alone so that both ends 20, 21 of the cylinder are pressurized and, due to its differential area, the piston 18 is moved to the left end of the cylinder to increase the link length, bringing the fuel lever 3 to a "stop" position for reduced engine speed. When the engine is finally stopped, both valves 30, 43 are de-energized and pressure from a separate accumulator 47 passes through the valve 43 to the right end 21 of the cylinder, establishing the "stop" position, which is maintained by a non-return valve 45.
