Abstract

1371432 Particle analysis COULTER ELECTRONICS Ltd 12 May 1972 19289/72 Heading G1N In Coulter type particle study apparatus, improved resolution for two particles within the scanning ambit of the aperture at the same time, is provided using the POSITIVE SLOPES of scanning pulses within a window defined by adjustable UPPER and LOWER THRESHOLD circuits. Fig.2, shows a line I, five pulses from particles arranged in the aperture as shown at A..E. Pulses from a positive slope detector, (line II) occurring while the amplitude is above a minimum threshold 46 (line III) enable two particles to be resolved in cases B and C. Pulses exceeding the upper threshold limit may be discarded, Fig.4 (not shown). A block diagram, Fig.3 (not shown), illustrates positive slope detectors (78) and upper and lower threshold detectors (80), (82) connected to a VETO/AND circuit (86). The positive slope detector is illustrated as including an R-C differentiating circuit (112), (114); lower threshold is provided by a biased diode shunt (124); the output passes to a pulse shaping circuit (128), Fig.5 (not shown).
