Abstract
1371184 Cathodochromic sodalite PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 26 March 1973 [29 March 1972] 14451/73 Heading C1A [Also in Division C4] Manufacture of cathodochromic sodalite with composition Na3Al3Si3O12NaX (where X is Cl, Br or I) comprises preparing an aqueous solution of Na aluminate and at least 0À33 moles of Na halide (in the form of the salt or by reacting HX with excess NaOH in the Na aluminate) per mol. of Na aluminate, adding SiO2 to said solution in the quantity 0À9-1À10 mols./mole of Na aluminate, drying the resultant suspension, heating the product at a temperature of more than 500‹ C. but below the m.p. of sodalite (e.g. at 1000-1150‹ C. for ¢-4 hours) and washing the product with water. A further heat treatment with additional NaX may be carried out to improve the cathodochromic properties of the sodalite.
