Abstract

1371052 Estrogen conjugates CHARLES E FROSST & CO 4 Oct 1971 [13 Oct 1970 19 Nov 1970] 46090/71 Heading C2U Conjugated estrogens (e.g. estrone sulphate or sodium estrone sulphate) are obtained from equine pregnancy urine or from an aqueous or aqueous-alcoholic solution of a conjugated estrogenic substance obtainable therefrom, by contacting with an anion-exchange resin which adsorbs the conjugated estrogens, and eluting the latter from the resin-adsorbate with an aqueous-alcoholic eluant containing chloride ions (e.g. supplied by NaCl or NH 4 Cl). Thereafter the eluate may be distilled to remove the alcohol, or may be evaporated to dryness to yield solid estrogen. The anion-exchange resin may be cholestyramine resin.
