Abstract

1370753 Electron beam apparatus; lasers UNITED STATES ATOMIC ENERGY COMMISSION 22 Jan 1973 [15 Feb 1972] 3172/73 Headings H1D and H1C An electron gun filament support structure comprises a plurality of opposing leaf springs 21 insulatedly mounted on a base 3, the springs having outwardly curving slotted ends 20 and being arranged to tension the filaments 5 which have enlarged ends engaging the slots. The filament may be a wire, rod, bar or woven structure. The springs and tray are of Mo containing Ti and Zr 0 and are spaced by sapphire insulators 16. The structure is used in a laser amplifier in which ionisation of a CO 2 , N 2 , He mixture in an optical cavity 11 is maintained by an electron beam 14. The mixture is pumped by a discharge between a cathode 7 and anode 9.
