1370282 Boxes; container closures 3 M UNITED KINGDOM Ltd 21 Oct 1971 [24 Sept 1970] 45640/70 Headings B8P and B8T [Also in Divisions A5 and B6] The invention relates to packages from which a fragrance is released when they are opened or manuipulated, the fragrance originating from the contents of microcapsules which are coated on to one or more surfaces of the package and are 'ruptured by frictional forces when that surface is moved (by opening or manipulating the package) relative to an adjacent surface. Numerous embodiments are described including various box-like packages and stoppered bottles. In Fig. 3, the microcapsules are coated on to the flap 24 of the "flip-top" package; in Fig. 4 a face 38 of a plastic casing carries the microcapsules which are ruptured when the lid 30 is removed. Figs. 7 and 6 (not shown) depict the necks 62 and stoppers 64 of screw topped bottles in which the microcapsules are carried on a washer 66 and are ruptured by the unscrewing movement. That shown in Fig. 7 has an adhesive coating 68 on the seal 66 as well as a coating 70 containing the microcapsules of aromatic material. The adhesive in coating 68 is also contained in microcapsules and is released when the stopper is screwed on and provides lubrication which prevents rupture of the aromacontaining microcapsules. Fig. 5 (not shown) depicts a package wrapped in plastics foil having an opening strip on a part of which the microcapsules are applied and on another part is a pressure sensitive coating. The coated part passes through a restrictive band, e.g. of paper, plastic or metal when the strip is removed thus causing capsule supture.
