Abstract

1370017 Sliding-clasp fasteners LIGHTNING FASTENERS Ltd 1 Dec 1972 [22 Dec 1971] 59599/71 Heading E2S A method of manufacturing a stringer 1 for a sliding clasp fastener comprises forming a row of coupling elements 4 from a length of plastics filament, securing the row of elements along an edge of a tape 5 by means of stitches 6, thereafter heating the surfaces 7 of the elements in direct contact with the stitches sufficiently to soften the surfaces, and then applying pressure to the stitches to press the stitches at least partly into the softened surfaces of the elements, and maintaining the stitches in this position during hardening of the plastics material thereby to minimise relative movement of the stitches along the elements.
