1369958 Change-speed gear; toothed gearing AUTOMOBILES CITROEN SA 30 April 1973 [29 May 1972] 20406/73 Headings F2D and F2Q In a motor-vehicle change-speed gear wherein pinions 5, freely mounted on and selectively clutchable to a secondary shaft 6, mesh pinions (4) on a parallel primary shaft (1), irregular noise-producing mesh of unclutched pinions, due to tooth clearances is prevented by friction drag between the pinions 5 and shaft 6, produced by spring-loaded plungers 12a, radially or obliquely mounted in the pinions or shaft and pressing on the shaft or pinions respectively. In Fig. 3 the plungers 12a are subject to centrifugal force to reduce the drag at higher speeds.
