1369807 Crash restraint bags EATON CORP 29 Sept 1971 53265/71 Divided out of 1369225 Heading B7B A crash restraint bag is inflated by fluid stored in a reservoir 110 having a percussion actuated explosive valve 24 operated when the reservoir slides longitudinally of a container 112 against the action of a spring 116 when the carrying vehicle suffers an impact producing a sudden change in momentum. A valve body 30 defines a chamber 44 with a filler material 38 of low shear strength carrying detonators 40 ignited upon engagement of firing pins 42 with the.end wall 124 of the container 112 to rupture an area 34 weakened by grooves 35. The rupture of area 34 and disintegration of material 38 allows fluid from the reservoir 110 to flow along a manifold 126 to the bag (18), Fig. 1 (not shown).
