Abstract

1369063 Stoppers, &c. BECKMAN INSTRUMENTS Inc 15 Oct 1971 [21 Dec 1970] 48029/71 Heading B8T [Also in Division B2] An assembly to be carried by a centrifuge rotor comprises a tubular sample container 16 for containing a sample solution to be centrifuged and a stopper 18 carrying sealing means 20 and externally shaped to slidably fit within the bore of the container while in liquid-light sealing engagement therewith. The container in use is received in one of a number of inclined cavities formed in the centrifuge rotor. The sealing means 20 is in the form of an O-ring arranged in an annular groove 19 in the stopper. The stopper includes an axial bore 21 for the introduction of sample solution into the container and a counter bore 22 into which a plug 24 having a stem portion 32 fits to close the bore 21 with the interposition of an O-ring 33. The counter bore 22 is formed in an axially projecting portion of the stopper which is threaded at 27 for engagement by a tool for removing the stopper after a centrifuging operation. A cylindrical skirt 25 projects from the main body of the stopper which has an inclined under surface 26 to facilitate the release of air bubbles while the container is being filled with sample solution. The container 16, the stopper 18 and the plug 24 are made of plastics, e.g. a polycarbonate.
